Hurtado Sisters: Powerhouses in a compact size
Where are you from? What brought you to Tucson?
E: Originally from San Luis, AZ but moved to Tucson for the U of A and ended up staying.
M: I am from San Luis, Az. I moved to Tucson to attend UofA.
How long have you been a CrossFitter, and why did you start?
E: About a year now, I think
M: I started doing cross-fit when I first moved to Tucson but after 2 months I had to stop due to an injury. After three years, my sister said she re-joined cross-fit and that I should consider re- joining. The moment I came pack, I realized how much I missed the intensity, and more than anything how much I missed being part of the cross-fit community . I decided to join cross-fit because I have always loved being challenged and thats what cross-fit does. It challenges me both physically and mentally.
Which movement is your favorite?
E: Definitely not wall balls, but maybe thrusters
How have you improved the most?
E: I’ve been able to go heavier on some of the workout with the right amount of peer pressure!
M: I have improved in many ways. I went from using a training bar to using a regular bar on my cleans,as well as from not being able to jump on a rope to now being able to climb it. (I never thought I would be able to manage my rope hook grip or better yet, be able to climb it. I’m stoked ! )
If you were stuck on a desert island, and could only have one food forever, what would it be?
E: Combo #2 from In n Out (with a milkshake)
M: Flamming Hot cheetos with cheese please!Oh and a Coke Zero ,just to prevent any choking from happening.
What do you love about being at CrossFit Purgatory?
E: The support from all of the coaches as well as the other purgees
M: I love the community and more than anything how everyone provides you with a warm welcoming from day one. Everyone is simply amazing!
What keeps you motivated?
E: The small little improvement
M: My improvements and my desire to improve keep me motivated.
If I’m not at the box, you can probably find me…
E: Probably Roadhouse
M: You can probably find me at roadhouse cinema eating popcorn. Half caramel, half jalapeño please! Oh and don’t forget the Dr. Pepper. I mean, hydration is key.
One interesting thing about yourself not related to CrossFit:
E: I am the younger sister!
M: I can transform any lunch or dinner leftovers into breakfast by adding an over easy egg.
