Athlete of the MonthMarch

Alejandro Chavez

A CrossFitter who likes burpees!!!

Where are you from? What brought you to Tucson?
I am from Nogales, AZ. I moved to Tucson in 2014 to pursue higher education after high school.

How long have you been a CrossFitter, and why did you start?
I have been an official Purgee since September 2018, so 5 months total. However, I used to drop in every once in a while back in 2015 when I got my first CFP punch card. My sister (and retired Purgee), Alexis Chavez introduced me to CrossFit and I fell in love with it ever since.

Which movement is your favorite?
So hard to pick just one! Top 3 are burpees, thrusters, and front squat.

How have you improved the most?
I am still not as fast as I would like to be but I definitely see my form progressing which is my number one focus for now. I try to continue perfecting my form with any movement we do every time I go into the gym and I think it’s paying off but I’m still not satisfied!

If you were stuck on a desert island, and could only have one food forever, what would it be?
So hard to choose! Either tacos or wings.

What do you love about being at CrossFit Purgatory?
I love the family dynamic at the gym, and feeling comfortable enough to ask any coach or member for help or guidance regarding working out or taking care of my body in our out of the gym. I also love being motivated by the people that I work out with and I love when everyone cheers each other on to keep going strong.

What keeps you motivated?
I believe my primary motivation comes from within. There are many times when I am surprised by my own strength or my ability to keep pushing through a high intensity workout and it motivates me to go even heavier or harder for the next workout.

If I’m not at the box, you can probably find me…
Definitely at the U of A..

One interesting thing about yourself not related to CrossFit:
I love to cook!
